By Ruth Konchellah | Director of Cherish Others Organization Kenya
Since the last update, Cherish Others has continued its programs in the Transmara region of Kenya. Cherish Others has visited primary and secondary schools with the objective of sensitizing girls to the danger of FGM, and boys to the dangers of early marriage.
Cherish Others is involving even the younger generation on the awareness of FGM, and sharing stories of success against FGM, because girls as early as 6 years of age go through this horrific practice.
Cherish Others continues to encourage girls to remain in school by emphasizing the importance of education in order to avoid early marriage, to avoid FGM, and to prepare for successful adulthood.
In the wake of the elections in Kenya, the director of Cherish Others, Ruth Konchellah, has been sensitizing new officials to issues confronting girls in the community. Cherish Others continues to pursue a community-based approach, which includes reaching out to parents, elders, educators, and officials.
Cherish others enjoyed Christmas with families of girls which Cherish Others supports.
