Dear Esteemed Donors,
Greetings to you from Health Education Adoption Rehabilitation Development Society (HEARDS) - India!
It was really wonderful to share a story about Sheru (name changed) was staying at her home until the age of 12. Till the age of 12 she was looking after her brother who was a kidney patient. Sheru when approached by our Animator she was interested to come to our rehabilitation centre but unfortunately she was not so confident because she knows that her mother won't allow her to send to our rehabilitation centre. Finally after a lot of visit to Sheru's house our staff was able to convince her parents by saying that Sheru can visit her house at regular intervals to attend her Brothers needs.
During the initial days she was feeling little bit shy to come to our centre as she is the eldest girl who is learning basics when compared to other children at our rehabilitaiton centre. But once our children at rehabilitation centre became friends with her and during the later days she started mingling with other children. Now she is not shy anymore and started to learn the basics of reading and writing English, Telugu and Mathematics. Unfortunately two months back her brother died. After her Brothers death now she attends the classes through out the day and not missing any class.
Sheru was happy now and she is confident that she is not an illiterate. Even though she was not fluent enough in reading and writing but still she manages to read and write. By this time the teachers discovered his love for education. Extra attention by our teachers has made this child quite amicable and confident that she can also study like any other regular school going child. Now she also have dream for a better future like any other school going child.
HEARDS has covered 30 slums of Chittoor through its welfare services and community development programmes. With committed children like Sheru and donors like you at Global Giving who are supporting us a lot and also HEARDS would like to transform the lives of many more children like Sheru who are illiterates or dropouts or child labor into future erudites of the nation.
