Progress Report

Children eagerly to receive their toy
Children eagerly to receive their toy

Dear Respected Patrons,

Seasonal Greetings to you from HEARDS - India!

Hope you are doing well.  It makes me immensely happy to share this progress report and in many ways this quarter was a memorable quarter where children had lots of fun with toys.  Children got to meet new visitors, got better facilities at the centre, had lot of fun and some serious studies as well. Children received story books.  With the valuable and esteemed support from people like you we were able to improve the lives of these children back to the normal life.  As part of the project, funds have been provided for meeting teachers’ salary, centers’ running cost, for purchase of provision items towards mid-day meal for children, for organizing some events for children and for meeting the project related overheads.  During this quarter the rehabilitation center run very effectively.  The teachers and the animators are working hard in bringing back the children to the rehabilitation centre regularly.  But some of them ran away as they couldn’t adjust with other children but our teachers and animators are trying them to convince and bring back to centre with 100% attendance.  Now almost all the children are coming regularly without any absence.

PERSONAL CHANGES OF THE CHILD

As usual the new children who have enrolled in our centre were facing difficulty in adjusting to the new climate, teacher, learning discipline, attending classes, doing homework but now after motivation they are fine. They are learning living in groups, day to day practice of Morning Prayer, meditation, mid-day meals were slowly making as their regular habits.  Behavior with the teachers and animators is positively changing by responding well to questions raised in the center by teachers, animators and project coordinator.  From 9 am to 4 pm in the formal school hours they started to learn all the subjects including computers and extra-curricular activities of indoor games like caroms, chess etc.  They also started to do their homework regularly and slowly they are focused on interest in education.

LEARNING STATUS IMPROVEMENT

Imparting education forms the major activity of our staff with a view that our children are to compete with the regular school going children. Hence, our attention is paid in bringing out the academic excellence of the enrolled children. The major impact of this programme is that the socially and economically poor students followed systematic combined study, day-to-day review of the lessons learned in the classrooms and increased interest in studies. Most of the parents thanks to our centre teachers for making a change in their children’s behavior and develop good attitude in regular studies.

DONATION OF TOYS AND LIBRARY BOOKS

HEARDS members would really want to thank Toy Bank, Bengaluru for donating more toys and few books towards HEARDS child labor rehabilitation center.  We already started to utilise the toys and books donated by them in the previous years which really found to be so interesting.  As per my observation I have found that library books, toys and games not only amuse children, but also stir their imagination, stimulate creative instinct and spontaneous thinking. They also sharpen the child’s reasoning enlarge his/ her vision, encourage free flow of thoughts, improve observation power and concentration. Some toys and games test speed and perception. Some others teach discipline, honesty, truth, courage, etc .and develop the spirit of co-operative competitiveness. I found after utilizing these books and toys an interesting fact as long as the human society realizes this basic truth, it will remain incomplete.

HEARDS will certainly realised its importance because all these days we were teaching non-formal and formal education through easy based learning methodologies but now we started to realize that we need to include toys and library books are one of the most effective teaching aid.  I also realized that our children at our rehabilitation centre feel that the toys and games will stimulate the child’s perception and imagination, encourage their mental development and this process will create the process of learning with greater fun.

We express our heartfelt thanks for donating our inevitable project with gratitude for supporting these downtrodden children.  I request you to kindly share this valuable work to your friends and relatives as each penny of yours makes a big difference among the lives of these children.

Thanking you,
