GlobeMed is a non-governmental organization that brings together college campuses and students nationally across 56 chapters with local grassroot movements across 20 countries throughout the world. GlobeMed as an organization focuses primarily on empowering impoverished communities and raising awareness on issues of global health equity. Our organization's goal focuses on creating sustainable partnerships between dedicated and passionate college students and local communities.
The Tufts University chapter of GlobeMed is partnered with PHASE Nepal, an organization that specifically works in rural Nepalese communities that often have incredibly limited, if any, access to education, running water, and basic health care. Our partnership with PHASE Nepal is based off our philosophy that health care, livelihood opportunities, and education form an existential triad. Any one of those three pillars cannot stand without the two other. In order to promote health care equity in remote Nepalese villages, it is necessary to also create an education infrastructure, as well as livelihood opportunities for individuals to support their families and allow their children to obtain a quality education. In order to meet our national organization's goals, we at Tufts send several interns each summer to Nepal to foster genuine and sustainable relationships with the communities we fundraise for. In light of last year's major earthquakes, our mission has grown even more important for helping these impoverished communities toward health care equity and rebuilding the infrastructures that were lost in the disasters.
Currently, we are very close to our fundraising goal of $15,000. We have so far raised $14,302, with only $698 left to fundraise. We greatly appreciate all the support that our contributors, GlobalGiving, and all the time and effort our chapter members have put to make this a reality. We hope you will consider helping us finally reach our fundraising goal so we can work towards global health equity.
