This project supports 1,400 medical assessments per year for children who are victims of abuse or neglect in Portland, Oregon. Child Abuse Response and Evaluation Services (CARES) Northwest also provides outreach training in abuse prevention.
It is estimated that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be physically or sexually abused by the time they are 18. CARES Northwest provides medical assessments and interventions for children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence. Charitable contributions to CARES Northwest ensure these services remain available to our community. In this time of financial strain on families, which can contribute to abuse and make seeking support difficult, our services are more vital than ever.
Coordinating experts in medicine, mental health, child protective services and law enforcement agencies, CARES Northwest ensures that children and their families obtain all the professional services they need in one child-friendly location. This approach minimizes trauma to the child, helps prevent future abuse, and sets them on the road to healing.
CARES Northwest provides more than 1,400 outpatient assessments and 150 inpatient assessments per year to abused children in Portland, Oregon and the surrounding area. We also provide support services for families, prevention training and outreach to the community. Our long term goal is to both treat and prevent child abuse in all its forms.
