“Chiguru”, the Biggest Annual Cultural Fest for Children in Bangalore, A Grand Success
The 6th annual children’s cultural fest “Chiguru”, was held on Sunday, December 21st 2014 at Vijaya College, RV Road, Basavanagudi, Bangalore, IN.
This year 2,500 children from 80 Seva Kendras participated in the day-long event at Vijaya College. There were 20 event categories that ran through the day from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Students who participate in this annual event belong to schools that are unable to offer a forum for children to showcase their talents, a forum that privileged, private urban schools offer to their students.
More than 700 volunteers were in charge of the show completely.
Chiguru the is flagship cultural project of Hindu Seva Pratishthana since 2009. Volunteers organize this cultural fest for school children every December. Chiguru has grown year after year in terms of the scale, the number of participants, the range of events and the coverage of government/non-formal schools. This unique fest provides students of government and non-formal schools a platform to showcase their talents and skills.
Here, volunteers get a well-rounded experience in conducting an event, right from developing the concept, to planning, coordinating, preparing the children and executing the event.
This year too, enthusiastic volunteers helped the children to identify and discover their interests such as singing, dancing, drawing, Gita chanting, yoga, street plays, debate and quiz contests. Through a mentoring process they trained, coached and encouraged the children to participate in the competitions.
Says Soumya Dey, Organising Secretary, “Chiguru, like all our programs, is a 2- way development platform where both the volunteers as well as the children connect with and discover each other while giving a huge boost to their self-confidence and self-esteem. It brings out the best in the volunteers and the children and helps them evolve in their journey of self development.”
Apart from the school children and the volunteers, the invitees included corporate sponsors, corporate volunteers, individual donors and school officials.
