charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to developing countries. 100% of donations received by charity: water directly fund sustainable water projects in the field.
Almost a billion people on the planet don't have access to clean, safe drinking water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. In Ethiopia alone, 83 million people lack access to safe water sources. Many live in rural areas and must walk miles each day to collect water that's likely to make them sick. Waterborne disease is one of the leading causes of death to kids under five years old in Ethiopia
100% of donations received by charity: water directly fund sustainable water projects in areas of greatest need. The average charity: water project costs $5,000 and serves 250 people with access to clean, safe drinking water (that's $20 per person).
Clean water and hygiene training can reduce disease in an area by up to 45%. Safe water projects nearby allow women more time to work and take care of their families. And kids can attend school instead of spending their mornings walking for water.
