Ananda Learning Center in San Sebastián Río Hondo, Miahuatlán, Oaxaca, Mexico is enhancing its educational programs throughout this remote area by training additional Montessori guides. It has enlisted local Zapotec women to train as Montessori teachers, and engaged Zapotec families to learn about child development, Montessori educational principles and nutrition. Our grant is a part of this holistic program. MGGF is underwwriting the tuition, transportation and room and board for two teachers to gain their Montessori certification.
The Ananda A. C. Learning Center is a non-profit civil association that has created the necessary infrastructure so that more than 55 children between 3 and 12 years old have the bases of knowledge and awareness to face today's challenges. Today, it is also in the process of creating a farm school that serves the comprehensive development of young people from 12 to 18, which is already serving 8 adolescents.
Ananda (www.anandaoaxaca.com) is, furthermore, a unique project at the country level as it gives priority access to children of Zapotec origin, also establishing a percentage of 35%-40% for children from other cultures. This creates a cultural mix that enriches everyone's personality, allowing them to internalize, through experience, that we are the same on a human level, we are truly equal.
Ananda's Vision Statement: Participate in the transformation of the current educational system towards a more conscious form of learning, respectful and contextualized through our child development center. Integrate the children of the community international and the local indigenous community to develop jointly, Ensuring that the majority of educational leaders are native to the place. Develop awareness, gratitude and healthy lifestyle and relationship habits, respectful and aware of each other and our environment. This vision statement underlies all Ananda's activities in the community and matches MGGF's efforts to support Montessori initiatives in under-resourced communitites worldwide.
As of now, our most recent grant has started two Zapotec women on their journey to earn their AMI Primary certifications. Once they complete their diploma work, they'll return to Ananda to start guiding students in the Ananda school or schools in the wider region.
MGGF is so thankful for the donations given to this wonderful Montessori initiative. The students benefit, their parents benefit, the women who become teachers benefit, and the community at large is enriched by this training.
