There is a saying from the Talmud that "whoever saves one life, it is as if he or she has saved the whole world." It is through the action of service to others, especially those who have been most neglected, that we take a step toward making the world a little bit more just and in the process we also save ourselves.
We at Childline Kenya thank and appreciate you for your interest in our work towards saving the Kenyan child and in essence the Kenyan population. To us, the child helpline is a tool through which we get to “save the world” because truly “one call = one life = the world”.
We’ve just concluded the judicial process of a harrowing case where a man was sentenced to life imprisonment for repeatedly defiling his (12 years) daughter *Pendo since 2011. This man, a drug user and dealer, would take advantage of his daughter whenever the mother was away working to feed the family. Due to the girl’s tender age, he went to the extent of using bicycle lubricant on her for easy penetration.
This case was reported at the Helpline in December 2012, after *Pendo’s brother caught their father on the act. With the help of a neighbor they called the Helpline and reported what was going on. The matter was reported to the nearest Police station, the father was arrested and *Pendo was rescued and placed at Childline Kenya’s safe house where she received counseling (http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/projects/a-safe-haven-for-child-abuse-victims-in-kenya/).
The father was charged with defilement and sentenced to a well-deserved life imprisonment.
For *Pendo and many other children whose experiences are received and handled through the helpline, the lingering effect of this service is immeasurable. You continuing support will make us reach and support more children. Tell a friend about us!
