Once again a big thanks for choosing to support our project. Your donations are making a difference in the lives children of Kenya.

A quick update on Irene, the child labour victim we introduced to you in the last project update and a direct beneficiary of your donations. As indicated in our last report, we found out that all her four siblings were also not in school even though they were of school going age. We made the necessary arrangements and had the children enrolled in school. Unfortunately, in spite of their ages, they all joined school at grade one. Their learning will however be accelerated depending on their ability to learn and the support they will receive from their teacher. We also had a talk with the parents on their parental responsibilities. Attached you’ll find a few pictures of Irene and her siblings in their new schools.

Irene’s case has provided Childline Kenya with an opportunity to partner with the Barclays Bank of Kenya who on learning of this situation, decided to pool additional resources with Childline Kenya and build a good shelter for the family. We will share the pictures of this incredible work in the next project update.

Going forward, our plans are to strength our rescue and reintegration efforts to ensure that child abuse victims are reached to in time and given the necessary full support. To achieve this we are building a transit safe house where we’ll place children temporarily as their cases are being resolved and ultimately return them to their families/communities. This project is expected to be complete by December 2012.
