Koinonia is a beacon of hope for underprivileged, neglected children in Kenya. For over 20 years, we have nurtured confidence & compassion in Kenyan children with a curriculum that blends academic excellence and character building. We provide holistic, high-quality education, mental health care and healthy meals to children in need. We serve over 150 students but want to reach more. With your help, we can empower more children to transform their lives and uplift their communities.
The Kenyan government aims to provide basic education for every child aged 4-18, but rapid population growth has overwhelmed the system. With a shortage of classrooms and teachers, many students are crammed into overcrowded spaces lacking basic necessities. This strain leads to low literacy rates, especially among impoverished children, already grappling with trauma. Without significant intervention, the promise of education as a path out of poverty remains out of reach for many in Kenya.
Koinonia provides a holistic education programme to build academic ability, accompanied by a wide range of extra-curricular activities that build confidence, and one-on-one counselling to improve children's mental health. We undertake various initiatives to build trust with family members and keep children in school, such as parent workshops and home visits. We also provide dormitories and nutritious meals, breaking down barriers at every level that students may face in accessing education.
Through education at Koinonia, students not only acquire skills and knowledge to secure a job, but they also develop a confidence that allows them to pursue their dreams. Students also learn to serve others and contribute to their communities. We have witnessed our graduates complete their college education and move into various professions including teaching, interior design, engineering and more. With your help, we hope to expand the impact of this work across broader communities in Kenya.
