Chain of Courage: news beads and personal stories

By Marianne Naafs | Exec director

Our project Chain of Courage for children with cancer supports all chidren and teens diganosed with cancer in The Netherlands (550 new diganoses per year).

In the last month we added two new beads to our program: a bead for narcosis (a glow in the dark cloud) and a bead for a trip in the ambulance.

The testomonials of children and parents on our Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kanjerketting/?ref=settings) show the importance and positive impact of the program.

"Our son was very young when he was diagnosed with cancer. It was a very heavy time. But despite the pain and fear he was super proud of his Chain of Courage. We have thougth a long time about how to give his Chain a place in our house. We are very happy with the result. Our son looks at it very often and talks about it daily. It is his treatment diary in beads. We parents know the pain and sorrow behind every bead but the Chain of Courage makes that we can look back in a positive way."

"Our daughter just got her flower bead, the very last bead. We are so proud or our brave girl. We can only look back in admiration on what she went through. The beads in het Chain of Courage tell her treatment stoty. But they don't shwo the nausea, tears, disabilities and the fear of pokes and pills. We are glad it is over and will enjoy every day without treatment."
