Center for Supportive Schools (CSS) inspires and enables schools to leverage the leadership potential of students so that they team up with faculty and staff to create the vibrant environments needed for academic, social, and emotional learning.
Too many students in the United States feel uninspired, disconnected, even alienated at school and haven't developed the leadership, academic, social, and emotional skills needed to succeed. Left unaddressed, school disengagement can result in chronic absenteeism, poor academic performance, bullying, drug and alcohol use, and risky sexual behavior. CSS helps to create safe, supportive, engaging, and inspiring schools that keep students engaged -- a critical step in school and life success.
CSS partners with schools to implement programs that train students to be leaders who make schools better for themselves and their peers. As a result, students become strongly connected to their schools and to one another, while they build leadership, academic, and social skills that lead to school and life success.
CSS's work has been proven to lower dropout rates; increase grades; decrease discipline referrals; and reduce high-risk behaviors. Our impact can be seen in the experiences of 30,000 students every year across 300 schools currently implementing one of our programs.
