Karunashraya, based in Bangalore, provides free palliative care to terminally ill cancer patients. Through this project you can make a significant impact towards improving care provided to terminally ill cancer patients at Karunashraya. Most of our patients are from very poor economic background and your contributions will directly help improve services provided to them during the last days of their lives. The 50 beds we have require 150 bedsheet sets every six months due to frequent laundering.
(1) We face severe water shortage as the corporation water is supplied only twice a week. We are forced to buy water at high prices. Installing one more borewell will help reduce our monthly running expenses on water purchases. (2) We require approximately 150 sets of sheets to be replenished for all the 50 beds, every 6 months. (3) Heated water is a critical requirement for our patients. Our Solar Water Heaters were installed 12 years back. These are no longer working and require replacement
Karunashraya operates on donations, and contributions to this project will directly fund the following initiatives: (1) New borewell with pump (USD 5800) will ensure uninterrupted supply of water and reduce running expenses; (2) The project will ensure supply of bed sheets, draw sheets, pillow covers, curtains for 50 beds for 1 Yr (USD 7400); (3) The project will provide for replacement of old heaters with new 300 liter Solar Water Heaters with replacement of corroded pipes with new plumbing.
The project will significantly improve the quality of care and reduce our monthly running expenses thereby enabling Karunashraya to reach out to a larger number of needy suffering cancer patients. For these advanced stage cancer patients 70% of whom come from poor economic backgrounds, having a nice clean bed to sleep in, get medicine dressings and food in time and to live in a place with good ambience with no pain or worry would have been a distant dream which was made possible at Karunashraya
