DAY CARE/ECDE REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, 2013

The month of September was a very difficult month as prices of commodities was very much affected by the tax increment.

DAY CARE

There has been increase of number of babies in the day care from 15 to 25.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CLASS (KINDERGARTEN)

We have also registered 5 more new children in the kindergarten class.

ACHIEVEMENTS (DAYCARE/KINDERGARTEN)

During the end term exam the kindergarten children did very well as they were able to read letters, identify different colors and shapes. They have also continued to brushing the teeth after meals and wash their hands before and after every meal.

Children have learned new more nursery songs and even taught their siblings at home and their colleagues at the day care.

Parents are very happy with their children’s improvement and with their new teacher.

YOUNG MOTHERS PROJECT

On 11th October, 2013 we were able to join the world in celebrating the international girls day and we had a very successful event which was attended by more than 300 school pupils and invited guest.

The invited guests were from the Ministry of Women, Gender, Children, Culture and Social Services, children rights organizations, teachers, young successful women who shared their road to success with the students. We also had several speakers from Ministry of Youth Affairs who gave motivation speeches.

We donated 300 re-usable sanitary towels to school girls from needy families, presented appreciation certificates to each school and guests plus other small presents which we had gathered from different companies include primary schools text books.

We also used the event to educate the girls on their legal rights and create community awareness on HIV/AIDs issues.

 CHALLEGES/FEARS

One of a our main challenge and fear is on the financial issues and more especially on employing qualified staff sustaining them that is due to limited funds.

Our main sources of income come from the services rendered which is the day care, kindergarten and the young mother skill training.

We have being having problems by parents/guardians either paying only for meals and not tuition fees making it difficult for us to pay the care givers, kindergarten teacher and life skill instructor.

Our other fear is that the city council has started a nursery school a walking distance from our project site and their charges are very low. We cannot reduce our charges to be at the same level with theirs because their teachers are being paid by the city council. They are on the pay roll and therefore, they do not depend on children’s tuitions.

WAY FORWARD

But all the same we have developed some advertisement to market our services so that come next year we do not lose our children to the city council’s day nursery.

REQUEST TO GLOBAL GIVING

We would like to request from the donation in our global giving account to be disbursed in to our account to enable use out tiles on the kindergarten class floor which is in a very bad condition. We would also like to repair our children’s traditional story hut.
