This project supports over 100 marginalized children from the favela Cidade de Deus. We are building a community that offers academic support, family medicine, and new economic opportunities.
The most successful ways for the children of Cidade de Deus to overcome the hurdles of stigma and social exclusion is through education and economic opportunity. Capoeira Cidadã provides over 120 children with access to a safe and supportive community, educational support classes, and professional development in teaching the art of capoeira, crafting and selling instruments, and performance. This provides them with the essential skills and motivation to succeed.
We offer daily classes of capoeira, academic tutoring, classes on civic and moral development, and community service projects. Children rewarded for attending and succeeding in school and for community service. We have a 95% retention rate.
Capoiera Cidadã helps at-risk youth to develop their innate capabilities to move beyond the existing cycles of violence and poverty. Youth in the project will also gain concrete skills that will help them lead successful and productive lives.
