Hello friends,
AWAG is pleased to share the Bimonthly Progress Report with regard to our project BUILD CAPACITIES OF 400 DEPRIVED GIRLS IN GUJARAT.
PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES
Awareness Raising:
An Awareness Meeting on Microfinance was organized with Aanganwadi workers and young girls from the local communities. The idea was to raise awareness about microfinance and importance of saving. The participants found the meeting extremely insightful and have decided to start saving little by little so as to tide over their personal expenses without having to borrow money at high interest rates.
Youth Leadership Development:
In the next phase of our interventions with adolescent girls from the areas under Bapunagar ward in east Ahmedabad, potential leaders were identified to undergo leadership development. So far, a total 137 adolescent girls have undergone these meetings. Through discussions and games, the participants were directed towards recognizing their inner potential, building their understanding and developing their life-skills to move towards social and economic empowerment.
Counselling:
AWAG's counsellor provided individual and group counselling support periodically to all the girls residing at AWAG's Migration Support Centre. A concept based on that of a 'home away from home' in the form of counselling services, accommodation assistance, periodic get-togethers, ensures a supportive environment for a progressive career growth for these youth. Initial homesickness, adjustment issues with relation to a new environment, pressure from seniors at the workplace to increase sales and work for longer duration are some of the common issues faced by these young girls.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
