Hello Friends,
AWAG is pleased to share the Bimonthly Progress Report with regard to our project BUILD CAPACITIES OF 400 DEPRIVED GIRLS IN GUJARAT.
PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES
As part of building capacities of adolescent girls at the community level, AWAG organised a Training Camp for Anganwadi Workers & Helpers of Bapunagar Ward on 17 February 2018. We believe that the Anganwadi worker is one of the most important frontline workers, who own major responsibility for delivering an integrated package of services to adolescent children and women. The programme covered a discussion on Women Awareness and Youth Development. With the participation of a total of 68 Anganwadi Workers & Helpers from across 42 Anganwadis in the said area, the response for sure was overwhelming.
It is through these Anganwadi Workers that the adolescent girls aged 11-18 years, which fall in their ICDS blocks are being mobilized for capacity building and empowerment. The girls are equipped with information on health and family welfare, hygiene and guidance on existing public services; in addition to building life skills, legal knowledge and entrepreneur skills.
In line with this, in order to bring about increased awareness about Menstrual Hygiene and promote the use of sanitary napkins among adolescent girls, awareness workshops were conducted by AWAG in its work area that fall in the slums of Bapunagar ward in East Ahmedabad. One such training was conducted on 14 March 2018 with 41 adolescent girls, while another training was held on 20 March 2018 with 19 adolescent girls. Through tutorials on menstruation (http://www.awagindia.org/creating-impact/health-awareness/) coupled with dialogue & discussion, a large number of myths and problems of adolescent girls regarding menstrual health and hygiene were demystified by the facilitating team of AWAG. Sanitary napkins were also distributed to all the participating girls.
