Canine Companions for Independence is off to a great start in 2020. Our first Team Training class of the year graduated on Friday, January 17 from the Schulz Campus in Santa Rosa, CA. Team Training classes in all regions will soon begin, as we look forward to placing more assistance dogs free of charge with adults, children and veterans with disabilities.
The first quarter of the year will feature fun events in communities like Phoenix, Arizona, where DogFest Phoenix will be held. Our other centers are gearing up for Dogfests that will take place from the west coast to the east coast throughout 2020.
The year also promises to be a good one for our North Central region. Later this year, a new North Central Region campus will open in New Albany, Ohio. This new campus will feature something our current North Central Campus has never had -- dorm rooms for students participating in Team Training.
In 2019, Canine Companions placed 368 assistance dogs. While that was not a record number of placements in our organization's history, it was the fifth consecutive year that we have placed at least 300 assistance dogs.
