Canine Companions Assistance Dog Team Sponsorship

We are well into the fourth and final quarter of 2019, and once again it has been a good year for Canine Companions for Independence.

For the fifth consecutive year, more than 300 assistance dogs have been placed with adults, children and veterans with disabilities. The total should wind up being between 330 to 340 assistance dog placements. Over 6,200 assistance dogs have been placed since we first opened our doors in 1975.

The need for our dogs remains strong, as our waitlist is 400. We hope to move candidates from the waitlist to team training student as soon as possible. 

In an effort to serve more people, Canine Companions is improving and expanding its facilities. The new training building at the Schulz Campus has opened, providing a third training room. This will help as we continue our PTSD program - placing service dogs with veterans with PTSD.

On a larger scale, the new North Central Campus in New Albany, Ohio is coming right along. By this time next year, we anticipate that our North Central Regional Center will be open for business. It will put that campus on par with all other Canine Companions regional centers.

We could not provide our assistance dogs and follow-up graduate services without the strong support we receive from donors. The financial contributions we receive make it possible for us to provide our assistance dogs and follow-up services free of charge.

We look forward to finishing 2019 on a high note, and look to 2020 as being another year of enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by providing them with highly trained Canine Companions for Independence assistance dogs.
