Canine Companions Assistance Dog Team Sponsorship

On July 4, Canine Companions celebrated 44 years of providing highly trained assistance dogs and follow up services free of charge to adults, children and veterans with disabilities.

Well over 200 assistance dog teams have been placed in 2019, putting us on track to place between 330 to 340 assistance dogs by December 31. All six regional centers of Canine Companions have at least one more team training and graduation ceremony scheduled this year. One of the dogs that makes a difference in people's lives is Bear, a Facility dog that works for a District Attorney's office in California. This two-year old dog helps victims of crime during all aspects of criminal cases, especially children. 

Educating the public about what our dogs do is critical to the success of Canine Companions. Our  DogFests that are held around the country are both outreach and fundraising events and help spread the word about Canine Companions. DogFests will be held in communities that include but are not limited to Washington, DC, Oakland, CA and  Reno, NV. The events are open to the public, and we welcome people and their dogs to these upcoming events. To learn of a DogFest in your area, visit cci.org.

In addition to our events, we also are looking forward to the completion of a new training building at our headquarters and Northwest Region center in Santa Rosa. This building will serve as the space for students with PTSD who will be paired with an assistance dog. In New Albany, Ohio, the construction of a new campus to replace our existing center in  Delaware, Ohio is on schedule. It will be late 2020 before the new campus is finished. The new campus will make it possible for Team Trainings to take place on campus, and the North Central campus will also have dorms, making it possible for students to stay on campus rather than in area hotels.
