Canine Companions for Independence is off and running in 2019. Following a very strong 2018, in which we placed the 6,000th assistance dog in our history and placed over 300 assistance dogs for the fourth consecutive year, all six regional centers of Canine Companions have already held Team Training classes and graduation ceremonies. Throughout 2019, our regional centers will be placing more assistance dogs with people with disabilities, including placing service dogs with veterans with PTSD. Our centers in Irving, Texas, Santa Rosa, California and Medford, New York will place service dogs with veterans with PTSD. All Canine Companions assistance dogs and follow-up services for our graduates are provided free of charge.
We are also expanding our facilities, which will enable Canine Companions to serve more people. At the Schulz Campus In Santa Rosa, California, a new training building, designed to serve students with PTSD, is under construction. The building should be completed later this year. A far larger project is a new North Central region campus. All signs point to breaking ground on the new campus in April 2019. The new campus, which will be located in New Albany, Ohio will include dormitories for students attending Team Training. The current North Central center lacks dorm rooms for our students.
DogFests and other special events will be held throughout the year from coast to coast. To learn more about upcoming events in your area and how you can make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities, please visit our website cci.org.
