We conducted 94 cancer awareness and screening camps for the period of October 2017 to December 2017.
Provided cancer awareness to 6295 persons and screened 1504 persons for oral, breast and cervical cancers.

Orientation Program on Alternative Livelihood for Beedi Workers
Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai, Nellai Cancer Care Centre (Udhavum Ullangal) and Grama Udhayam organized one day orientation programme, supported by HCL Foundation, on alternative livelihood for beedi workers in Tirunelveli. Around 200 beedi workers from the District participated, were empowered and sensitized on the occupational health hazards, cancer prevention and the opportunities in alternative livelihoods. Dr, A. A. K. Bernard, Primary Physician, Central Hospital for Beedi Workers, Mukkudal, inaugurated the workshop. Eminent resource persons and experts in the field namely Dr.E.Vidhubala, Associate Professor, Resource Centre for Tobacco Control and Mr. R. Elango, IOB delivered lectures and oriented the participants on the same, thus helping them have an improved health and quality of life. Around 100 beedi Rollers gave written consent to undergo skill training as alternative employment to Beedi workers. Action plan is getting ready to take it forward to the next step.
