Lebanon remains in a fragile and volatile state following the war. Basic services in hard-to-reach areas are under enormous strain, with three hospitals and 35 primary health care centers non-operational nationwide, and damage to homes, health facilities, water systems, and electricity networks continues to affect access to essential services, compounded by funding gaps limiting the humanitarian response.
This instability strikes directly at the ability of children with cancer to access timely, uninterrupted treatment — a population for whom even short delays in chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation can be life-threatening. Damaged infrastructure, non-operational health facilities, electricity and water disruptions, and the loss of health workers all threaten the continuity of care that pediatric oncology demands, while displaced families face added barriers simply reaching treatment centers safely.
Against this backdrop, CCCL's role as a stable point of specialized pediatric cancer care becomes even more critical — and even more strained, as the same national crisis that endangers patients also disrupts fundraising, donor engagement, and program capacity at precisely the moment when sustained international support is most urgently needed to keep treatment accessible for Lebanon's children.
