This project will conduct a massive awareness and education campaign on breast and cervical cancer, its warning signs with a focus on the importance of early diagnosis in treatment of cancer in the 3 selected communities. It will create a bridge between the masses and the health specialists through an advocacy visit to the hospitals for affordable screening and referrals services. The primary beneficiaries will be 200 women (18 - 60years) in Uru, Obosi and Amaenyi communities in Anambra State.
Breast and cervical cancers are the most common type of cancers among women. At this time, most cancer patients in Nigeria are diagnosed at advanced stages of disease, which reduces their chances of survival. In rural and low income areas, socio-economic limitations and illiteracy have led to several misconceptions about these cancers. These have precipitated a vicious cycle of preventable/premature deaths and hopelessness from women and young girls and they find it so impossible to overcome.
The project will focus on general sensitization/awareness creation and screening of women in these strategic communities of the state on breast and cervical cancers. We will also look for support and collaboration with health specialists and local authorities, community stakeholders/leaders, gatekeepers and influencers in order to make this a success because we believe that they will embrace this idea as this has been a problem to tackle in the state.
This project will set a pace for the state to look on to in making decisions as it concerns women and girls, it will be a life changing project as people will be affected positively and there lives will be transformed thereby changing behaviors positively. This project will assist beneficiaries to improve their livelihood as education has been the best way to empower the society and make the stakeholders all join hands together and work towards achieving the sustainable development goals.
