By Ben Noble | Project Director & Country Representative, Haiti
As we reach the conclusion of our current project in Canaan at the end of this month Internews wanted to share an update with you and kindly ask if you would be willing to give a final donation to reach our goal by February 28th. You’ve been so generous, and we can’t tell you how much your support means to us and the people we serve in Canaan; we just have a thousand dollars left to meet our goal of $6,000 by the end of February.
If only ¼ of our current donors (that’s just 12 people!) decide to make another contribution, we’ll meet our goal. Please give what you can today.
The stories produced as a result of the project have been used by prestigious academic circles in the US, Canada and the UK (such as Harvard, MIT, UQAM and Kings College) and development professionals in the US and Europe. These stories have inspired discussions about urban development policies in Haiti, and in other post disaster reconstruction contexts such as Nepal. It is also successfully informing local policy and programing.
A few months ago, Internews produced this Medium piece that has been very well received not only in Haiti, but also abroad:
The World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) that works on reshaping aid, asked Internews to provide them with a video of Canaan testimonies to illustrate urban displacement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiH9Q-BP1yA
This video shows clearly what Canaan is and why Internews is working there. It has been screened in Geneva in October 2015 and the WHS will be screened this Thursday at UN Headquarters on displacement in cities with a few high profile participants discussing on a panel :
Please join us for this special event in New York!
If you can't make it, you can watch the video here:

Internews has successfully trained two very passionate Haitian radio and TV women journalists, as well as two video producers to conduct in depth interviews in Canaan. They are currently working on stories with the community reporters with support from Internews. Overall, Internews has conducted over 30 recorded Interviews to be used for the final illustrated report that will be shared in Haiti and abroad.
One of the most important outcomes of this project is the great personal investment and stake that the women from the community we are working with have, when they tell their stories. It’s all because of you and your commitment to this project.
Thank you for your support!
