From November 9 till November 11, 2018, we had our camp for children (12-18 yrs) with and after cancer, and their siblings at Stay Okay Heeg in the province of Friesland, up in the North of the Netherlands, with the theme 'Living with and after childhood cancer'.
On the program were among others a "get-to-know-each-other quizz", a workshop "Stop Motion", a boat trip on traditional sailing ship on the Hegemer Meer and Fluessen (lakes near Heeg), a workshop with a psycho-drama therapist and a Djembé workshop. On Saturday evening the group went out to a dance in Het Oude Vat (The Old Barrel), a pub in Heeg - somehting that some of them never had done before due to their illness or the late effects of their treatment. And although it was November we could still have an outside barbecue. We also had a short remembrance ceremony for the chldren that have passed away.
There were all in all 26 participants with 8 camp staff members.
As always it was a great weekend where the kids shared emotions and experiences. Some of them learned to trust others again after the life changing event that childhood cancer is. And of course they had a lot of fun too.
