Cellcard are Cambodia’s largest and most successful telecommunications corporation who pride themselves on having their finger on the pulse of Cambodia’s rapidly emerging pop culture, while the Cambodian National Volleyball Team are one of the most successful Cambodian sports teams in recent history.

Cellcard’s advertising campaign, launched on CTN TV last week and aired every day, reflects the immense positive developments in Cambodia over the past few years and the inclusion of the Cambodian National Volleyball Team is indicative of the role that the Athletes with a Disability of Cambodia have played within this paradigm. The striking sequences of professional, international standard volleyball in the Olympic Stadium featured in the adverts have placed the Athletes with a Disability firmly on the mainstream media podium as ‘Cambodia’s National Sporting Heroes.’

Their success in winning Bronze and clinching the World #3 spot at the 2007 WOVD Cambodia Standing Volleyball World Cup won the hearts of the nation as they played before capacity crowds never seen before or since at indoor sports events at the Olympic Stadium. No other nation in the world reveres their Athletes with a Disability as their True National Sporting Heroes and Cambodia, her Athletes with a Disability and the CNVLD can be rightly proud that their achievements have made them unique in a world where able bodied sports men and women are more often revered and rewarded.

The awareness of Disability Sport raised through this pioneering ad campaign will also galvanise greater attendance at the upcoming 2009 National Volleyball League which will also be broadcast live to air on CTN for the first time in history. The CNVLD intends to cement this recognition when, later this year, the Cambodian National Volleyball Team, under inspirational National Coach Christian Zepp, will travel to India for the 2009 Standing Volleyball World Cup where their objective remains – To Become #1 in the World!
