Your gifts make it possible for bright young students from low-income families in Cambodia to attend university. Higher education for young Cambodians results in lasting transformation for families and local communities by improving job opportunities and intellectual capital. Without this critical financial support, these bright young students will likely work in low-wage factory or service jobs, reducing their immense potential to effect positive change for their communities in the future.
Cambodia's economy has advanced rapidly in recent decades, but it remains one of the least developed countries in Asia, ranking 144th on the Human Development Index (HDI). Students from rural areas often lack the opportunities and finances needed to fully reach their academic and career potential. Many young people drop out of secondary school to help meet the basic needs of their families. Their dream of high-quality university education is often impossible without scholarships assistance.
CWEF has supported select university students from impoverished rural areas since 2010 with tuition and monthly living cost stipends. Our team provides career counseling, financial management support, and academic coaching to help transform dreams into reality. Further, time management, stress management, and interview tips are given to assist their transition from university to employment. Holistic support and quality education is given to help students thrive and develop their full potential.
With more than 50% of the population under the age of 25, there is a huge opportunity now to build a brighter future for Cambodia. The country needs to build human capital in this generation for a thriving and healthy future. This project provides financial support and equips students with the life and career skills they need to build personal resilience throughout their studies and into employment. Entire families and communities can be transformed by investing in these young future leaders.
