Greetings from Globemed!
We hope that everyone had a restful break and is ready to ring in the new year with continued support for the girls at Set Her Free. Recently, strides were made to attain a new Tailoring Center where the girls at Set Her Free can continue their vocational studies by “learning on-site.” We are very excited to continue helping with this project and are excited to announce that the Center has opened! (Check out our new Global Giving Page for this project here). This summer, five students from George Washington University will go to Kampala as part of our annual GROW (Grassroots on-site work) to evaluate not only the new Center, but the Pad Program as well.
Pad Program Update
The Pad Program has been one of Set Her Free’s most important methods of allowing the girls to keep attending school. While GlobeMed at GW understands the importance of the project, members of Set Her Free and this organization have decided to shift our attention and future funding to Set Her Free’s new Tailoring Center. The girls will need a number of materials including a sewing machine and a cutting board. However, this does not mean that the pad program is left behind. The girls will continue to enhance their vocational skills at the new Center, and this includes making pads in the new facility. Furthermore, Set Her Free will continue distributing pads, and Globemed will continue to provide underwear and soap. These are essential aspects of the pad distributions that still need support.
Looking Forward
As always, the end goal of our partnership with Set Her Free is to provide them with enough resources that their programs will be self-sustainable. With the continued support of the Pad Program and the installation of their very own Tailoring Center, Set Her Free continues to work hard to ensure the success of these girls.
