Summary

Our project will provide the possibility for 83 children with disabilities in Santiago Atitlan and Cerro de Oro to attend our school, Escuela de Educacion Especial, and get the treatments and medicines necessary. The shuttle bus will provide secure transportation to and from school every day and to the necessary medical appointments in Guatemala City every other week. The shuttle bus will be adapted to the special needs of the children which is crucial for them.

Challenge

Children with disabilities in Guatemala rarely get the chance to go to school, and the situation is worsened by the fact that the public transportation is not working properly nor is it adapted to the needs of the handicapped. This further hinders our children from going to school and their medical appointments in Guatemala City, which are crucial for their well-being. We can provide these services for the children, but the transportation is missing and hampers their schooling and healthcare.

Solution

Raising the funds for the shuttle bus would make a huge impact on the lives of our students and their families. Not only does the shuttle bus make it possible for the children to attend school, we would also be able to transport the children and their parents to medical appointments in Guatemala City every other week, so they can receive their medications and treatments. The shuttle bus will not only improve the lives of the children but also the lives of the parents and the whole families.

Long-Term Impact

The project will give the possibility to the children from Santiago Atitlan and Cerro de Oro to attend school and the medical visits that takes place in Guatemala City every other week. With functioning transportation a huge impact can be made for these children in a long-term perspective. This project will contribute to: the personal development of the children, the availability of schooling, improved health conditions and the overall well-being of the children and their families.
