Empowering Burmese migrants to continue studying

Thank you for taking the time to read our update. We appreciate your dedication to our education program. Your help is our lifeline. Without your help, we couldn't empower over 400 children at our schools and they would be left uneducated, marginalized or simply have no opportunity to learn and chase their dreams.

Burmese families come to Thailand searching for better opportunities to secure their lives. A lot of migrant families move around a lot. Sometimes staying in a place for a couple of months or a few years, but eventually they move elsewhere or back to Myanmar. While the parents can find job opportunities with better wages than in Myanmar, the children are often left uneducated due to the lack of Burmese schools in Thailand.

The Foundation for Education and Development is proud to be able to provide education to over 400 Burmese children in Southern Thailand. We directly empower children through primary education and guide them in either integrating into Thai high schools or connect with schools in Myanmar to continue their education when they move back.

Proudly seeing our students continuing Education in Myanmar

Recently we had three of our long-stay students moving back to Myanmar. They are highly motivated to continue their studies, but to attend high school in Myanmar they had to pass the high school exam. Our curriculum is streamlined with the curriculum in Myanmar, so students wouldn’t have too many issues rolling back into schools in Myanmar. We were so proud to see our students passed the exam with great scores!

Our teachers sometimes dedicate years to students and literally see them grow only to one day see them go. Often students can’t finish their education here due to the moving family. So, when students actually do reach our grade 8 and move back to Myanmar, we always provide necessary documents and connect to their local schools for possibilities to roll-in. When this succeeds, we are so proud of our students but also of ourselves for being able to provide this bridge!

We continue to improve our curriculum and strengthen our relations with ministries and schools to provide the best opportunities for our students!

New academic year has started

With the opening of the new academic year everybody is excited to start teaching and studying again. The level of motivation is sky rocketing. Students are so happy to be at school again and eager to learn, something not always seen in western countries! To our students, our school is not only a place to study, but also to see their friends again and to do fun activities, sports, group excursions and meet with foreign volunteers. Probably not fully understood by children, but our school is most certainly also a safe haven; protection from child labor, domestic violence, exploitation and abuse.

Your support is a lifeline to our children. With your support we can provide education, create a safe place for children during the day and empower them with necessary skills, experiences and opportunities for a better future. We and our children are forever grateful for your commitment.
