What did you do over the summer?

We went to the Spelling Bee summer camp!

The Spelling Bee summer camp was held from 9^th till 15^th of July. We made collages, sang songs, learned about volunteerism, made tie-dye shirts, went hiking, became more tolerant, ate s'mores, played capture the flag, and created so many unforgettable memories. It was a week full of eagerness to learn, forming friendships and positive energy.    

The Spelling bee summer camp is the award for the 30 national finalists and their teachers. The camp provided an opportunity for all participants who improved their English language skills, expanded their knowledge about the United States, boosted their confidence and self-esteem and made lifelong friendships. In the words of one of the participants: “The camp was an experience I will never forget! We learned a so much during this week and the counselors showed us that everything is possible when everybody works with dedication and enthusiasm”.

The Spelling Bee summer camp was the last event of this year's calendar. Stay tuned for Spelling Bee 2018!

The Spelling Bee national final was held on May 6th at the Hilton Hotel in Sofia.The 30 finalists and their teachers came to Sofia on May 5th and visited the United States Embassy and had a chance to meet representatives from different sections and to hear about their work at the embassy. The students showed their knowledge of American history and traditions and really impressed the Embassy staff during the quiz.

The National final was very competitive and everybody was impressed with the knowledge and language skills of the participants.This year the Spelling Bee Champion was Lyubomir - a seventh grader from Private Primary School Meridian 22, Sofia. This is the second time Lyubomir is a national finalist and this year his hard work and efforts paid off.

You may wonder who is the adorable young man on the other picture...This is "SUPER" Mario - the youngest participant in this year's final. He is only 10 years old and we know for sure that we will see him at the final next year.

After the end of the school year the finalists and their teachers will take part in a week-long English Language summer camp with various language and recreational activities. This our favorite part of the Spelling Bee calender and we look forward to share all amazing experience with you. 

Bee Good to Others - this is the motto of this year's Bulgarian National English Spelling Bee campaign. The Spelling Bee team organized a contest for photos, videos and essays showing the spirit of kindness. All participating schools were provided with guidelines and ideas for various initiatives that they can implement in their communities. Through the contest we want to encourage the students to get involved and to BEE good to others. All submissions will be shared on the Spelling Bee website and Facebook page.

The opening ceremony of the 2017 Spelling Bee campaign will take place on February 24th at the 31 Secondary School for Foreign Languages and Management Ivan Vazov in Sofia. The event will mark the start of the school competitions which will be held from February 25th to March 2nd around the whole country. This year more than 6600 students from 304 schools will compete to become the 2017 Spelling Bee Champion.
