Since learning about winning the Social Venture Challenge at Clinton Global Initiative University this year, we have been preparing to begin working closely with the Resolution Project. The Resolution Project has graciously made a monetary pledge for us to restructure and re-prototype our project. They have also pledged to provide two mentors, as well as marketing, and branding services. We are beginning to be introduced to mentors to advance our project from a design standpoint, as well as from a social entrepreneurship standpoint. We are excited to update you in the coming weeks about what good the Resolution Project brings to Building with Bottles.
This summer, I’ve been interning for an organization called Thread International. Thread’s mission is to take disposed plastic in Haiti and turn it into useful goods for consumers. Thread has been able to employ many Haitians who did not have a form of income prior to their work with Thread, and they have expertise in making a refined product from something that is perceived as “trash”. As a design intern, I have helped them begin to develop products using fabric they are able to produce from plastic bottles, which has been incredibly valuable in learning about design processes, but also about a grander picture of how to run a project from abroad.
More exciting news in the coming months…
