Domestic violence among women is deep rooted in social & economic factors like early marriage, early school dropout, poverty, lack of family planning choices, alcohol use, inadequate livelihood skills, gender based mindsets in slums. This project focuses on community sensitization, behavioural change, life & vocational skills, safety, legal literacy, promotion of women self help & community vigilance group, mainstreaming with public service provisions & system change.
More than 50% of women in Lucknow suffer from domestic and gender based violence in physical, emotional and sexual forms reflected in early marriage & pregnancy, dependency, mobility, working status, low wages, malnutrition, beating, lack of family planning choices. It adversely affects adolescent girls and children.Social, cultural and gender biased prejudices restrict the potential of women and their access to basic human rights.
Our strategies include integrated slum planning, women self help groups, community volunteers, behaviour change communication ,life skill sessions, linkages with women and children safety services. Women, adolescents girls, children, their families, service providers will be sensitised, facilitated and engaged in identification of domestic violence issues and devising mechanisms to address the issues faced.
It will empower women in terms of their participation, expression, self advocacy, life skills, resources to address domestic violence and their development issues on their own. Engagement, sensitization and behaviour change of men and wider community will create a women friendly environment. It will reduce domestic violence incidences, early marriage & pregnancy and enhance women participation in decision making, livelihood opportunities, accessing their entitlement.
