Location: Trunk/Raja Bazaar, Rawalpindi Beneficiary: Faiz ul Islam Government School
Date of Completion: 18th March 2026
Executive Summary:
The restoration work undertaken at the Chemistry Laboratory of Faiz-ul-Islam School focused primarily on surface rehabilitation and minor repair of existing elements to restore the usability of the space following its deterioration due to old heritage building, prior external use and lack of maintenance.
At the outset, the laboratory was found to be in a non-functional condition, with extensive issues including inappropriate paint application, chipping plaster, damaged shelving, non-functional lighting, removed plumbing connections, and broken or stained-glass panes. The space had also been altered during a previous production use, which contributed to both aesthetic and functional degradation.
The scope of work carried out on site largely involved repainting of walls and ceilings, application of multiple paint coats to address seepage and staining from previous layers, and repainting of doors using oil-based paint. Minor repair and removal of damaged shelving elements were also undertaken, while preparatory steps were initiated for glass pane replacement and cleaning. Lighting was partially restored to enable work on site, and coordination for additional materials and finishing items was conducted during the execution phase.
The work progressed in phases, with a top-down painting approach adopted due to existing surface conditions. Delays were encountered due to paint seepage from underlying layers and drying time requirements, resulting in an extension of the anticipated completion timeline.
At the time of completion, the primary interventions had been carried out as planned, resulting in a stabilized and improved interior environment. The laboratory is now in a condition that supports functional use, with key surfaces restored and existing elements addressed within the defined scope of work.
What remains to be done?
We atleast require $10,000 to complete rest of the interventions and be able to restore and revamp other rooms in the school building including the bathrooms. There is no bathroom facility for Lady Teachers there. Please extend your support.
