This project empowers 30 widow women living with HIV in rural Tamil Nadu through structured support groups. The programme provides health education, emotional support, parenting skills, and opportunities for joy and connection-strengthening both mothers and the children living with HIV in their care.
Widow women living with HIV in rural Namakkal, Salem, and Erode face deep poverty, stigma, and isolation. Dependent on daily wages, many fear discrimination and lack access to information on nutrition, mental health, and holistic care, affecting treatment adherence. As sole caregivers of children living with HIV, they struggle alone-making timely support critical to restore hope, resilience, and stability.
The project brings women together through quarterly support group meetings that provide practical health education, emotional support, and parenting guidance in a safe, non-judgmental space. A Women's Day celebration helps restore dignity, confidence, and joy, challenging stigma faced by widows and women living with HIV. A one-day group outing offers rest, healing, and bonding, strengthening trust, resilience, and mutual support.
Women will gain improved understanding of holistic health and positive living, increased confidence in managing HIV, and stronger peer support networks among 30 women. Caregiving for children living with HIV will improve, restoring hope, dignity, and future goals. In the long term, empowered women strengthen families, enhance children's emotional and physical well-being, and build lasting resilience and community solidarity.
