As part of the ‘Restoring the marine environment and creating alternative and sustainable livelihoods in PNG’ project, AMF-Cufa (formerly Cufa) delivered 3 x 2 day training workshops from Taurama and Pari villages outside Port Moresby on life skills; work readiness; and entrepreneurship; as well as Training-of-Trainer planning and adult learning.
Overall, the three training workshops were completed successfully and on time. A total of 82 people participated in the workshops: 39 Male Adults; 33 Female Adults; 6 Undisclosed Adults; 3 Male Children and 1 Female Child.
Participants actively engaged in all aspects of the workshops and were generous and positive in their feedback. Although varying in their interests, participants anecdotally highlighted the topics on daily spending and savings budgets, and cultural and household barriers to financial management as aspects of the training they felt would have the greatest impact on their individual livelihoods, and those of their communities.
Training sessions also included time for general ‘Questions and Answers’ which the participants eagerly engaged with, and expressed they would have spent much longer discussing with the trainers had the workshops been scheduled for additional days. Participants also expressed their interest in continuing financial literacy training in future, with many stating these were topics they had never been educated in before.
