Everhart Village is a planned project that CHAT is developing in collaboration with Butte County Dept of Behavioral Health, which will refer clients who are homeless and undergoing mental health treatment, while CHAT will build and maintain the village and provide additional services and programs. The village will consist of 20 sleeping cabins outfitted with electricity, plumbing, and insulation on a plot of land owned by the county.
Butte County has a substantial population of individuals who are unhoused and living with mental health challenges. This has increased after several major wildfires that destabilized and displaced over 20,000 individuals. Even if they get treatment, they frequently cannot find housing due to lack of income or lack of resources. This will also serve as a model for many other areas that are struggling with similar challenges.
CHAT and the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health has collaborated to shelter Behavioral Health clients at Everhart Village. BCBH will provide clinician services, care management and assist residents with their mental wellness goals. CHAT will oversee the construction and day-to-day operations of Everhart Village, and the villagers to enhance life skills, housing goals, and providing opportunities to build community.
This project will substantially reduce the number of individuals with severe mental health challenges who are unhoused. This collaboration will also demonstrate the cost effectiveness of providing shelter and wrap around services. We also believe this project if successful can act as a model program for developing similar projects that are collaborations between local govts and local nonprofit organizations throughout the state.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
