Mid Year Report for the Project "Building Dreams"

By Arpan Dahal | Project Lead

The “Building Dreams” project, launched with the vision of promoting girls’ education in marginalized and underserved communities of Nepal, has made significant progress in its mid-year implementation. The project primarily focuses on supporting school-going girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds through scholarships, educational materials, mentorship, and community sensitization efforts. So far, we have conducted awareness sessions in four rural municipalities of Bardiya and Dang districts, engaging parents, local leaders, and teachers in discussions on the importance of continuing girls’ education, preventing dropouts, and challenging harmful practices like early marriage.

One key activity of the project has been the distribution of school supplies and uniforms to 75 schoolgirls identified through local school collaboration. In addition, 20 of these girls, selected based on socio-economic vulnerability, have received full-year scholarships covering tuition fees, stationery, and exam support. We also organized interactive life-skills sessions where girls received mentorship from local female role models and teachers. These sessions covered confidence-building, menstrual health management, and navigating challenges related to school attendance and peer pressure. The enthusiasm and active participation of the girls have been heartening, reflecting their eagerness to learn and build their future.

In total, the project has directly benefited 95 girls aged 10–18. Additionally, more than 250 parents, educators, and local stakeholders have been reached through our community engagement efforts. These activities are not only helping girls continue their education but are also contributing to changing community mindsets around girls’ roles and rights. Many families expressed that this support has helped reduce their financial burden and encouraged them to prioritize their daughters’ education. The Women Welfare Foundation remains committed to continuing this transformative work, aiming to empower more girls with the opportunity to build their dreams through education.
