Challenge

Communities in Zamfara State face growing threats of violent extremism driven by insecurity, poverty, limited education, and weak community structures. Youth are especially vulnerable to recruitment due to misinformation, lack of opportunities, and exposure to extremist narratives. Low awareness of early warning signs, weak collaboration between communities and security agencies, and limited access to accurate information further increase the the risk.

Solution

Without targeted interventions, these factors continue to fuel instability. This project will therefore strengthen community resilience through training, awareness, and collaboration. It will equip youth and leaders with skills to counter extremist narratives, promote media literacy, and identify early warning signs. Through dialogues and campaigns, it will foster trust, improve community-security cooperation, and empower local actors to prevent and respond to violent extremism sustainably.

Long-Term Impact

The project will build lasting community resilience against violent extremism by empowering local actors with knowledge and skills to prevent radicalization. Over time, it will strengthen trust between communities and security agencies, promote social cohesion, and reduce vulnerability among youth. The project will create sustainable community-led systems for early warning, response, and peacebuilding, contributing to long-term stability and development.
