The Tortoise and the Hare (We're the Tortoise)

Hi from the girls studying at the ALC in 2023
Hi from the girls studying at the ALC in 2023

This project has been a long time coming but we are moving forward and we know, with your help, that we will get there.

In 2023, the Agadez Learning Center (ALC) is hosting 54 students - the most it has ever had - and the girls are extremely enthusiastic about studying here. These girls are bright and committed to their studies and the ALC is their only opportunity to remain in school... but there are so many more girls who want to study who we cannot accommodate yet. Girls stuck in their home village with no hope to return to school, girls on a fast track to early marriage. Niger has the highest rate of child marriage in the world but school is a way out... if school is an option.

The girls at the ALC are lucky. Many of their neighbors don't have the same opportunity.

We're making progress with our plans to expand the center because we don't want to have to turn away a single student who has worked so hard to qualify.  We are excited to review the new blueprints with the architects in Agadez next month... but we don't yet have the funds we need to break ground.

With the help of generous individual donations and some committed grant funding, we've raised $75,000 (not reflected on the GlobalGiving site) toward this construction project... but we know that's not enough to start building.

We want to be ready for the 2023-2024 school year, which means breaking ground this spring/summer so that we can finish the construction while the students are on school break.

Can you help us?

Any donation helps build momentum - especially if you ask friends or family to give with you.

These girls deserve a chance - and together, we can give it to them.
