EWN is a local grassroots organization established in 1999 that aims to promote gender equality for underprivileged girls and women in Nepal. Our mission is to empower, educate and create employment opportunities through adventure tourism and sports. Our programs provide opportunities for underprivileged girls and women to develop their strengths and leadership skills so that they can take charge of their lives, make informed choices regarding their bodies, sexuality, reproduction and career.
Due to Nepal's patriarchal culture, girls and women often face discrimination and violence. Lack of opportunity, vision, protection and concrete efforts to engage young women and girls have led to discrimination, inequality, high unemployment and rampant violence. Girls and women feel hopeless and feel they can't do anything in life. Girls drop out of schools, marry early, become pregnant, engage in harmful activities and as a last resort many leave Nepal with heavy loans for foreign employment.
In order to address discrimination and gender inequality EWN is offering GOAL Leadership Program, Girls Against Aggression (GAA), Girls Get Science Technology Engineering and Math Skills (STEM), Female Trekking Guide Training Program and Basic and Advanced Rock Climbing Training. It hopes to offer outdoor adventure sports training benefiting girls and young women of Nepal.
Our program long term impacts are change in attitude and behavior of girls and young women. There will be boys and men advocate for girls and women's rights. Parents, family, guardians and community members' will value and respect girls and young women. Girls and young women will be mentally, physically and emotionally strong. Consequently it will create an inclusive and violence free society.
