This project aims at building a low- cost special maternity wing to help the vulnerable and underprivileged mothers surviving on less than one dollar a day in the slums of Nairobi to deliver safely in a well equipped facility with qualified healthcare service providers.This will reduce maternal deaths by 90% and newborns will have a promising and a safe start in life.
Kayole slums is located in the east lands of Nairobi city housing over 500,000 residents whose daily income are below two dollars. The area has only one government hospital which can only serve up to 200 patients in a day. Due to the high population ,the place is not spared from poor health services. Health seeking behavior and danger signs of infancy also remain very poor.The most affected are expecting mothers who don't get the required services on time leading to high maternal deaths.
The proposed construction of the low cost maternity hospital will primarily specialize in maternal and child health, and will offer general health care service as well. The proposed plan aims to address health care inequity in Kenyan city slums by increasing accessibility to high quality health care services among the poor. In addition, the plan intends to combat high maternal and infant mortality,poor nutrition by increasing the level of education on general and maternal health within the area.
This Project aims to improve the general health and nutrition of the residents of Kayole slums in Nairobi-Kenya, with a primary focus on maternal and children's health. In addition, the project hopes to play a major role in the revitalization of the social, economic and health sector of the poor communities.The whole project therefore aims at fostering strong communication and partnerships with all stakeholders in the health sector in order to bring along lasting solution.
