This project will build a visitor center at a World Heritage Site, in Costa Rica's Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG), a global leader in conserving endangered tropical dry forest ecosystems. The center will welcome people into the dry forest, promote biodiversity conservation, strengthen community engagement, and provide a gateway for educational adventures. Donors have a unique chance to help support the Horizontes section of ACG and its innovative vision for the future.
Tropical dry forests are among the world's most endangered ecosystems. The Horizontes section of Area de Conservacion Guanacaste provides a magnificent example of regenerating dry forest and its associated fauna including tapirs, ocelots, and jaguars. However, without a visitor center, the site provides few opportunities to educate the community and others about the importance of dry forests. Your support will help build this gateway center to inspire learning, curiosity, and conservation.
The Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the ecosystems of Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, will build an attractive visitor center at Horizontes where community members and other visitors can be inspired about the importance of the dry forest and the need to conserve it. They will also learn about the many ways they can experience Horizontes' natural wonders such as diverse wildlife, majestic forests, and a spectacular waterfall.
This project will establish a flagship visitor center, positioning Horizontes as a "Gateway to the Tropical Dry Forest." The center will educate and inspire thousands of visitors each year, fostering a lasting commitment to biodiversity conservation. By channeling visitation through a thoughtfully designed space, the center will help safeguard fragile ecosystems across Area de Conservacion Guanacaste while supporting a thriving model of sustainable tourism.
