The project 'Build toilets for school children in Nigeria' is meant to provide decent toilet facility for children in public schools. The rationale of this project is to reduce the cases of air and water borne diseases that is a direct result of exposure to unhealthy environment these children are exposed to. Its also a subtle means of teaching these children healthy practices from their school, that they could then teach their friends and siblings at home, and thus make for a healthier society
Children especially in public schools face the challenge of lack of toilets in their schools and so they convert the corners of their classrooms to toilets, this in turn pollutes the air they breath and spoils the entire environment with exposed faeces and urine. With the construction of toilets, thousands of children in Nigerian public schools will be saved from preventable diseases caused by dirty environment. This will directly reduce health care cost for families as well as mortality rate
The project "build toilets for school children in Nigeria" seeks to solve the following problems: - Provide primary school children with standard toilets for their usage. - Help in the fight against preventable air/water that threatens the well being of children. - Foster a cleanliness attitude in young children. - Assist parents in saving their income that would otherwise be spent in health care. - Provide a practical means for a clean environment that would enhance learning and teaching.
An average Nigerian public school has an average of about 1500 attending pupils. Its means the project will take care of about 1500 children and their teachers. The long term effect of this project is to enable generations of children that will pass through the schools (where the projects will be carried out) have a cleanliness mentality that they would in turn pass on to the larger society, thereby ensuring a cleaner and healthier society. It will solve the problem of indiscriminate pollution.
