This project will build a maternity health center facility in 10 villages in Nigeria, to help improve access to health care services for more than 3000 women. This will reduce the incidence of maternal and child mortality and morbidity, low quality antenatal and post-natal care. To support special health related activities and preventive programs such as literacy training for female, sanitation and nutritional needs of pregnant women.
The life expectancy at birth in Ebonyi State was 53.8 years for females and 52.6 years for males in 1991but declined to 46 years for females and 45 years for males in 2006. The infant mortality rate (IMR) has remained high and is estimated at 99 per 1000 live births. Inadequate Infrastructure and facilities:The increase in the patient flow placed so much pressure on the few available facilities and infrastructure at the secondary health facilities.
Provision of good ante-natal and pre-natal care to reduce deaths of newborn infants:. a. The childhood survival strategies of Growth Monitoring, Oral Re-hydration therapy, Breastfeeding, Immunization, Food Supplementation, Family Planning and Female Education. b. Free treatment of Under 5 children with essential drugs. . c. Free Maternal Care Services from conception to delivery
The project will help to improve access to health care for 3,000 women and children in Ebonyi, reduce high mortality and morbidity rates. Increase the number of pregnant women who receive prenatal care beginning in the first trimester.Identification of maternal disease and risks for complications of pregnancy or birth are the primary reason for first trimester entry into prenatal care. Increase the number of women, children, and families who receive preventive and treatment health service.
