IA3 - Creating Opportunities for Brilliant Adolescents

90 of the 400 adolescents assisted by the IA3 Institute in Pindamonhangaba (BR), are inserted in the Enterprise Apprentice Program.

Many adolescents think that, the long expected, first job opportunity can only be achieved after finishing a college, and many finishes a graduation without having one of the most important items in their resume, professional experience.

With the promulgation of the Apprentice Law in 2000, the training of apprentices became encouraged by both government and the private sector. The IA3 Institute of Pindamonhangaba is one of the entities authorized to promote the training and integration of apprentices into the labor market.

The Dow chemistry industry Administrative Assistant, Misael Tomazio da Silva, has gone through this training in 2010. With only 15 years old, in this opportunity, this apprentice developed technical and relationship skills.

"Four years ago, I and two friends of mine were pre-selected by IA3 for an interview in the Dow Chemical Company for a position of "administrative apprentice". The interview was challenging with several steps including practical activities and discussion of problem-solving, and other situations can occur in real situation of any company. The result came only after a month and then we began to be trained to the function" recalls Misael.

The multinational, located in Pindamonhangaba, is a partner of IA3 since 2010, worked with three apprentices of our program and has a structured process of selection, training and improvement of its professionals. Valeria Giacomini, Plant Manager of Dow Chemical, explains this process: “During the selection process, both technical and relationship skills, initiative, willingness to learn new things, future interests of the apprentice and their professionalism are evaluated. Their interests and skills must be in line with the area they will work for. After being hired training plan for the apprentices is put in place, they are always supported by a sponsor during the period they are with us learning the activities and gaining experience”.

To compete for an apprentice opportunity, the adolescents assisted by the IA3 Institute Enterprise Apprentice Program attend three modules of development, starting with human development workshops, digital inclusion as well as other themes with the aim to encourage entrepreneurship and youth leadership. Only after that, the adolescents are sent to professional qualification for Administrative Assistant, Production Line Feeder, Replenishment Goods and Sales Assistant; the program includes traineeships in partner enterprises.

The president of IA3 Institute says the program is a real opportunity currently offered to a 90 young people. "It is not only the technical qualification but also the training that includes the development of skills which make them citizens able to act as a team and keep theirselves in an ongoing development and active in the labor market". The project has already been awarded for two consecutive years by Volkswagen Foundation.

Misael who is praised for his performance at Dow Chemical wants to continue his studies and grow professionally. "The support received from IA3 was fundamental to my development, because when I thought my life wouldn’t work this starts happening, I am grateful for the advice and support received I could continue and reach my objective become permanent employee at DOW. Speech: The manager Valeria Giacomini bet Misael promissory future. “He grows as a professional every day because he is looking for it”, and she adds the partnership with the Institute IA3 has been fundamental tool for searching new talents and also helps the apprentices decide which career they want to follow in the future.
