Greener Minds, Growing Hope: Quiet Impact from Ekiti State

By Olalekan Adeyanju | Program Officer

Dear Supporters,

Thank you, truly, for standing with us. Your generosity continues to shape the Greener Minds Campaign in Ekiti State, nurturing both young environmental stewards and the trees they are raising with so much care.

This past quarter, something remarkable happened at our Greener Minds Club in Florence Court International School. Earlier in the year, the students planted 5 seedlings - a mix of Citrus for nutrition and Terminalia ivorensis for shade and heat reduction. Rather than a one-off activity, this became a months-long journey of responsibility and teamwork.

And the result? All 5 trees survived.

This is rare in school-based planting programs in Nigeria, and it happened because the children showed up , week after week to water, weed, and protect their trees, even during the dry spells.

Thanks to your support, we were able to provide the tools, watering cans, and basic materials that made the care process easier for them. Today, the trees stand visibly, transforming parts of the school compound into greener, cooler spaces that the entire community now enjoys.

Impact at a Glance

  • 5 trees planted
  • 5 trees survived and thriving
  • 20 direct beneficiaries (Greener Minds Club members who cared for the trees weekly)
  • 500+ indirect beneficiaries (students, teachers, and staff who interact with the growing trees daily)

Beyond the numbers, something deeper happened:

These students learned the power of consistency. They learned that sustainability is not an event, it is daily action. Each drop of water they poured was a lesson in patience, ownership, and environmental care.

This is the kind of change we want to scale across Ekiti State.

What’s Next?

With your continued support, we plan to:

            •           Establish more Greener Minds Clubs across schools

            •           Expand tree-planting and school greening activities

            •           Deliver hands-on eco-literacy workshops

            •           Train teachers as long-term sustainability champions

The survival of these five seedlings has strengthened our belief that with the right support, young people will always rise to the occasion.

Your Support Creates Real Change!

Here’s what your contribution makes possible:

            •           $5 – Eco-literacy materials for one student

            •           $10 – A tree seedling and care support for a child

            •           $50 – A school-wide recycling or climate education workshop

            •           $100 – Training for 5 teachers to become sustainability mentors

Your kindness is building a generation that cares and a landscape that reflects their hope.

Thank you for helping these young minds grow, learn, and take action. Together, we are planting hope and nurturing a greener future for Nigeria.

With heartfelt appreciation,

The TGED Foundation Team
