EMPOWERING 5,000 NIGERIAN STUDENTS TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE. "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." This isn't just a quote for us - it's our mission. In Nigeria, many students grow up unaware of the climate crisis. TGED Foundation is changing that through our Greener Minds initiative, we're equipping 5,000 students and 120 teachers in 25 schools in Ekiti State Nigeria with the skills to fight climate change, reduce waste, and promote sustainability.
We often picture climate change in melting glaciers or rising seas. But in Ekiti State, Nigeria, it wears a quieter face; one of ignorance. Across many schools, students and teachers lack even basic understanding of climate change, recycling, or how their daily habits impact the planet. Without intervention, the cycle of pollution, poor sanitation, and environmental degradation continues-endangering lives and futures. This project is set to bridge the knowlwdge gap by educating 5,000 students.
Greener Minds will educate 5,000 students on climate change, train teachers as sustainability mentors, plant 500 shade and fruit trees nutured by student eco-champions, and distribute 100 recycling bins across 25 schools in Ekiti State Nigeria. The students are also taught hands-on pracicals on recycling and up cycling making them to learn by doing, thereby building lasting habits that ripple across households and communities.
5,000 eco-literate students will grow into adults who make sustainable choices in their homes, careers, and communities. 120 trained teachers will continue guiding new generations of climate-conscious students long after the program ends. 500 student-planted trees will improve air quality, provide shade, and act as lasting symbols of youth-led action. Recycling bins and hands-on habits will reduce school waste for years, creating a culture of sustainability.
